Diving Deeper:

According to a report from the New York Post, on Friday, former President Donald Trump hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago resort, where he criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for her recent remarks on Israel. Trump called Harris's comments "disrespectful" and questioned how Jewish voters could support her candidacy.

Trump stated, "I think her remarks were disrespectful, they weren't very nice pertaining to Israel. I actually don't know how a person who is Jewish could vote for her." He further labeled Harris as a "radical-left person" and accused her of contributing to the decline of San Francisco.

Netanyahu, seated with Trump, implied that Harris's comments might have complicated efforts to secure a US-backed ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas. Netanyahu remarked, "We're trying to get [a ceasefire deal] and I think to the extent that Hamas understands that there's no daylight between Israel and the United States, that expedites the deal. And I would hope that those comments don't change that."

Trump vowed to staunchly back Israel and oppose Iran if he wins, criticizing the Biden-Harris administration for doing too little to enforce oil sanctions on Iran, which funds and trains Hamas and other anti-Israel groups. "We terminated the Iran nuclear deal… but unfortunately the Biden administration didn't do anything," Trump said. "We had all the cards. Iran was not using terror at all because they didn't have the money … Nobody was buying their oil and now they're a rich country."

With the Israel-Hamas conflict approaching its one-year mark, Trump claimed that a vote for him could prevent World War III. "If we win, it'll be very simple: it will all work out and very quickly. If we don't, you're going to end up with major wars in the Middle East and maybe a third world war."

As president, Trump implemented several pro-Israel policies, including recognizing Israel's annexation of the Golan Heights and moving the US embassy to Jerusalem. He also brokered diplomatic relations between Israel and five Muslim-majority countries.

Harris, on Thursday, however, criticized Israel's military actions after meeting with Netanyahu at the White House. Despite pledging "unwavering" support for Israel and condemning Hamas, Harris's comments drew criticism from within her party. "Look, I disagree with those comments," said fellow Democrat and Florida Rep. Jared Moskowitz on Friday.

Trump's focus on Israel as a campaign issue comes as fellow Democrats criticize the Biden administration for not fully enforcing sanctions on Iran. A group of 62 House members urged Biden to clamp down on Iranian oil exports, which have surged since Biden took office.
