Diving Deeper:

In an opinion piece for The Hill, Alexander Temerko, a Ukrainian-born businessman, expressed his strong belief that former President Donald Trump is the leader who can deliver the peace Ukraine desperately needs. While acknowledging the ongoing devastation in his homeland, Temerko criticized the current U.S. administration for failing to provide Ukraine with the necessary support to defeat Russia.

Temerko wrote, "Biden’s language has been about not humiliating Russia — ‘de-escalation’ and ‘off-ramps,’ even as Russian President Vladimir Putin’s brutal authoritarian regime advanced on Severodonetsk, then Bakhmut, then Vuhledar, and now Pokrovsk." He expressed concern that Biden’s approach is not preventing Russia's continued advance, warning that "next year it will be Kharkiv, and eventually Kyiv."

Contrasting this with Trump’s approach, Temerko called the former president "a man of action and business," praising his strength and decisiveness. He argued that Trump understands "the value of strength" and is someone who "does not tolerate objections and delays after a decision has been made." Temerko added that Trump’s promise to achieve peace in Ukraine on his first day in office is believable, stating, "I believe him. And Vladimir Putin should believe him."

Temerko also pointed out the challenges Ukraine faces domestically, including postponed elections and issues of corruption. According to him, "much support that we get from the West disappears into the wrong pockets, and never arrives to the front where people need it most."

The op-ed argues that only through Trump’s leadership can Ukraine secure a necessary ceasefire, which would allow the country to "rebuild its army, its reserve, restock its ammunition, house and treat its soldiers," and address the corruption that has hampered its progress.

Temerko concluded with a broader view of Trump’s global vision, noting, "His global goal is trade, always the key point for Trump." He explained that Trump's approach would free the world from economic protectionism and bolster global prosperity.

Ultimately, Temerko voiced his hope that Trump’s "peace through strength" strategy would succeed not only for Ukraine but for the entire world.
